The first question Jocelyn Castellano, APRN, AGNP-BC says she always gets is, “What are all those letters behind your name?”

Jocelyn laughs and very patiently explains, “APRN means that I am an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, with post graduate education in nursing. AGNP-BC means that I also am an Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), which is an advanced practice nurse with a clinical focus on treating people from adolescents through adult ages and into advanced age.”

Acute care was her passion for many years, working in a variety of positions, starting as a staff nurse and progressing to a managerial position in the intensive care unit (ICU) and later, the trauma unit. “It was go on and stay on for many years, but at that time, I enjoyed the variety of my position.”

Soon though, she began to miss the joy of long-term patient relationships. “Transient care is an important service in our field, but I missed getting to know people beyond being sick,” said Jocelyn. “When people are well, we frankly have a different rapport, and I missed that one-on-one interaction.”

Married with one child and two grown step-children Jocelyn’s passions (other than her family) include wellness and raising money for local nonprofits – she recently completed a 5K marathon for Mother’s Against Drunk Driving. “My focus is on the health and well-being of my patients and family,” said Jocelyn. “Even after 26 years of nursing, I still enjoy every minute of what I do!”
